Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) Selects Angstrom Microsystems™ As Provider of Next Generation Server Render Farm
AMD Opteron™ processors significantly increase compute power of the ILM render farm
Angstrom Microsystems, an AMD Opteron™ processor-based system specialist company, is announcing the deployment of Titan64 SuperBlade™ rendering servers at Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), a Lucasfilm Ltd. company. These blade servers are powered by AMD Opteron processors (NYSE: AMD) to provide maximum performance and scalability of the rendering server farm. ILM is using the Titan64 SuperBlade servers to enable a significantly more complex and faster generation of movie visual effects.
A Titan64 SuperBlade rack maximizes processing density by packing 65 blade servers with space for 10 switches and other networking gear into one rack. Quality is a hallmark of Angstrom Microsystems; its blade servers are designed to minimize failures by, among other design features, blade cooling without the use of small, fragile fans and blowers.
