Spansion Recognized by Lenovo as "Best Supplier" of Flash Memory Products for Mobile Phones in China

SUNNYVALE, CA -- 1/11/2005 -- Spansion LLC, the Flash memory subsidiary of Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NYSE: AMD) and Fujitsu Limited (TSE: 6702), received the Best Supplier award at Lenovo Mobile Communication Technology's 2004 supplier conference. This event was the first of its kind held by Lenovo and drew hundreds of suppliers who offered up a wide range of products for review. Only ten companies were ultimately selected as award winners, with Spansion beating all other top Flash memory vendors to win the honor. Spansion is the world's leading manufacturer of NOR Flash memory products.

Lenovo Mobile Communication Technology Ltd. is a joint venture company founded in 2002 by Lenovo Group and Xiamen Overseas Chinese Electronic Co., Ltd. The company specializes in R&D, manufacturing, sales and service for Lenovo mobile phones. Over the past few years, the company has launched a series of mobile phones that offer stylish designs and advanced functionality to meet growing demand for these features. The company's mobile phones are widely recognized by consumers in China as being among the best of their kind. Lenovo handsets are renowned for their advanced technology, superior quality, while the company is praised for offering users technology and services tailored to their needs and desires.

"We are proud and excited to be honored as the best supplier of Flash memory for Lenovo Mobile Communication Technology," said Gary Wang, vice president for Asia-Pacific operations at Spansion. "This validates the popularity and credibility of Spansion™ products with our customers and also demonstrates that Spansion is a leader in the Flash memory industry. Spansion Flash memory, especially our MirrorBit™ technology, provides mobile phone manufacturers with advanced Flash memory products that enable them to produce affordable and feature-rich mobile communications products."

The Flash memory products Spansion provides to Lenovo include devices based on traditional floating-gate technology, with densities ranging from 32Mb to 128Mb, as well as products based on the company's proprietary MirrorBit technology, with densities ranging from 64Mb to 128Mb. Lenovo anticipates it will increase its use of MirrorBit technology as it develops ever more advanced phone designs. Spansion's MirrorBit technology is a comparatively simple but powerful approach to storing two bits of data in a single Flash memory cell. MirrorBit enables high reliability and fast read performance, both critical features for the Flash memory market. Compared to other solutions, it offers the best price-performance and is a more versatile technology. At present, eight of the 10 leading mobile phone manufacturers in China use Flash memory from Spansion.

"For Flash memory products, we require high performance, low price, optimized performance, and product stability," said Guan Wei, vice president and general manager of operations at Lenovo Mobile Communication Technology. "We also prefer suppliers that can provide a steady supply of products and after-sales services. Spansion and its products meet these requirements and we believe that using Spansion Flash memory will continue to help Lenovo meet its strategic goal of creating a world-class brand in mobile phones."
