Phoenix Technologies Supports Revolutionary New AMD Processor for Mobile and Consumer Devices

Phoenix Core System Software Works with AMD Geode™ LX 800@0.9W processor to Deliver Exceptional Performance and Features for Fast Growth Consumer Electronics Marke

MILPITAS, Calif -- 5/23/2005 -- Phoenix Technologies Ltd. (NASDAQ: PTEC) announced that its Core System Software will support the new AMD Geode™ LX 800@0.9W processor*, which was unveiled today by AMD.

The AMD Geode LX 800@0.9W processor was designed to allow device developers to build lower cost, small form factor devices that address key consumer requirements: long battery life, low power consumption, and familiar interfaces. Phoenix’s Core System Software (CSS) allows the AMD(?) processors to easily support industry standard operating systems, including Windows® XP Embedded and Windows CE.

The combination of the AMD Geode LX 800@0.9W processor and Phoenix Core System Software gives Windows developers greater freedom to create innovative devices and respond to the fast pace of the consumer electronics market. Developers can also rely on the Phoenix CoreArchitectTM developer tool to easily customize the firmware environment to support a host of AMD Geode LX 800@0.9W processor -based digital devices, from video cameras, to handheld scanners, to audiovisual components that allow consumers to create full-featured home entertainment systems.

“The widely-adopted Phoenix software and our AMD Geode LX 800@0.9W processor create an excellent platform for designers to develop new and innovative applications and form factors ,” said Erik Salo, AMD's director of marketing for the Personal Connectivity Solutions Group. “Phoenix’s focus on secure and reliable software will ensure that developers have a trusted platform upon which to create the next wave of digital devices for the home, office, or on the go.”

Phoenix has a longstanding relationship with AMD and has worked with the company supporting a full range of chip sets. In addition to enabling the AMD Geode processor family, Phoenix also provides TrustedCoreTM software for server, notebook and desktop processor technologies from AMD.

“We congratulate AMD on the release of this latest member of the AMD Geode processor family, which takes direct aim at solving some of the thorniest device design challenges so that consumers will have a better experience at a more affordable price,” said Michael D. Goldgof, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Corporate Marketing and Products Division at Phoenix Technologies. “Phoenix is proud to support AMD in bringing this technology to market. This milestone further demonstrates our commitment to enabling whole classes of digital devices that are secure from the start.”
