Footnotes

Additional hardware (e.g. Blu-ray drive, HD or 10-bit monitor, TV tuner) and/or software (e.g. multimedia applications) are required for the full enablement of some features. Not all features may be supported on all components or systems - check with your component or system manufacturer for specific model capabilities and supported technologies.

  1. AMD Eyefinity technology works with games that support non-standard aspect ratios, which is required for panning across multiple displays. To enable more than two displays, additional panels with native DisplayPort™ connectors, and/or DisplayPort™ compliant active adapters to convert your monitor’s native input to your cards DisplayPort™ or Mini-DisplayPort™ connector(s), are required.  Support for six simultaneous displays may require complementary products compatible with DisplayPort 1.2 Multi-Stream Transport. Maximum number of configured displays may vary - check with your component or system manufacturer for specific model capabilities and supported technologies.  SLS (“Single Large Surface”) functionality requires an identical display resolution on all configured displays.
  2. AMD HD3D is a technology designed to enable stereoscopic 3D support in games, movies and/or photos. Requires 3D stereo drivers, glasses, and display. Not all features may be supported on all components or systems – check with your component or system manufacturer for specific model capabilities and supported technologies. A list of supported stereoscopic 3D hardware is available at http://www.amd.com/HD3D.
  3. AMD CrossFire™ technology requires an AMD CrossFire Ready motherboard, an AMD CrossFire™ Bridge Interconnect (for each additional graphics card) and may require a specialized power supply.
  4. Utilization of PCI Express 3.0 bandwidth requires a mainboard equipped with a PCI Express 3.0 PHY. Not all mainboards feature this technology – check with your component or system manufacturer for specific model capabilities.
  5. AMD PowerPlay™ and AMD PowerTune are technologies offered by certain AMD Radeon™ products, which are designed to intelligently manage GPU power consumption in response to certain GPU load conditions. Not all products feature all technologies – check with your component or system manufacturer for specific model capabilities.
  6. AMD App Acceleration is a set of technologies designed to improve video quality and enhance application performance. Full enablement of some features requires support for OpenCL™, DirectCompute or DirectX® Video Acceleration (DXVA). Not all products have all features and full enablement of some capabilities and may require complementary products.
  7. Minimum recommended system power supply wattage is based on the specific graphics card and the typical power requirements of other system components. Your system may require more or less power. OEM and other pre-assembled PCs may have different power requirements.

Reviews

HardwareCanucks.com

“One of the main advantages of the HD 7850 is AMD’s move to a 2GB, 256-bit memory interface.”

– M. Hoenig, Hardwarecanucks

“As with the HD 7870, we couldn’t have asked for more in terms of efficiency and overclocking capabilities. The sought after 1GHz mark was attainable even without voltage tuning and while your experience may differ, this resulted in unheard of performance levels for a $250 card. Meanwhile, power consumption was by far the best we’ve seen from a GPU that can play games at high settings.”

– M. Hoenig, Hardwarecanucks

HotHardware.com

“If you’re in the market for a graphics card in their price range, the Radeon HD 7800 series deserves to be on your short list.”

-M. Chiappetta, HotHardware

Rage3d.com

“The AMD Radeon HD 7800 series are a real pair of jewels, great cards with the right balance of performance, features and power consumption.”

–J. Prior, Rage 3D

“If you've been holding out for an upgrade for the last 2-3 years for your performance gaming needs, the wait is over - get one, or two, AMD Radeon HD 7800s and don't look back.”

–J. Prior, Rage 3D

The Tech Report

“I'd say the two new Radeons [HD 7870 & HD 7850] are also better options than the comparable GeForces”

–Scott Wasson, The Tech Report

“The Radeon HD 7870 and 7850 are the most power-efficient of the bunch, but why wouldn't they be? They both have small and nimble 28-nm GPUs, while our other cards must make do with larger, more power-hungry 40-nm chips.”

– Scott Wasson, The Tech Report

“Thanks to AMD's ZeroCore Power scheme, 7000-series Radeon GPUs switch to an ultra-low-power state when the display is off. The company says power draw for the whole card drops under 3W when that happens.”

– Scott Wasson, The Tech Report
