AMD Link is a ground-breaking app designed to enable users to stream games to mobile devices, monitor performance and PC system info, stream and share gameplay moments from a PC, and be in the know with AMD’s social/gaming feeds on a smartphone or tablet.

General Questions: What are the minimum requirements for it?

You need Android 5 or later, or iOS 10 or later to be able to run the app on a mobile device.

General Questions: Do I need an AMD Radeon™ graphics card in order to install AMD Link?

No, however, the functionality of the app will be severely limited as most of its sections, such as Game streaming, Performance Monitoring, AMD Radeon™ Wattman technology1 and AMD Radeon™ ReLive will not be available. The News Feed functionality doesn’t need a connection to your PC to work, for instance.

General Questions: What version of Radeon™ Software do I need for the AMD Link app to work?

It depends on the functionality; features introduced in AMD Radeon™ Software Adrenalin Edition 2019, 18.12.1 or later will be needed. For minimum functionality can be obtained with Radeon™ Software 18.6.1 or later.

User Interface: What are the six sections of AMD Link?

  • The Home section, containing images you can click on to learn more about AMD or AMD partner products.
  • Game streaming section, which allows you to launch PC games and play them in your device, customize your controllers or even stream your desktop.
  • PC Performance Monitoring section, which allows the user to monitor and track gaming performance and system info of their PC using easy-to-understand bar graphs. This section also houses Radeon™ Wattman* functionality that allows the user to optimize their PC.
  • AMD Radeon™ ReLive section that enables capturing or streaming of your gameplay and sharing the gameplay moments saved on your PC. The user can also view their AMD Radeon™ReLive gallery, with live previews of their screenshots/videos, crop them to a desired length and save them to their mobile device.
  • The News Feed section allows users to receive info from AMD social feeds, as well as options to share them across their social channels.
  • App Settings that allows users to connect to their saved connection profiles, initiate a new PC connection, select whether they want their device’s display to be always on or not and enable advanced AMD Radeon™ Wattman* functionality.

User Interface: What is the bell I see in the top left of the Home section after I have connected to a PC?

You can click on the bell to find out the latest versions of AMD Link and AMD Radeon™ Settings – and whether any updates have been released. If a new AMD Radeon™ Settings version is available, the user will be able to update their driver using an express upgrade.

AMD Radeon™ ReLive: Can I select multiple images or videos in the ReLive gallery?

The user can select multiple files to delete them – but can only select and share one image/video at a time.

AMD Radeon™ ReLive: When I record/stream, or take a screenshot, where are my files saved?

In this case, AMD Radeon™ Settings is still doing the heavy-lifting – which means that once you record a video or take a screenshot, your files will reside in your ReLive gallery’s save folder on your PC.

AMD Radeon™ ReLive: Why can’t I use the app’s ReLive functions? I am already connected!

You need to make sure you have installed and enabled AMD Radeon™ ReLive in Radeon™ Settings. Once installed, go to the ReLive tab in Radeon Settings, and make sure ReLive is on.

Settings: My screen is “always on” while I am in the app – can that be disabled?

Of course; just go to App settings and click on the “Keep Screen On” checkbox to disable this feature.

News Feed: Can I share news items that I find interesting?

Yes, click on the news item. On the top right you will see a sharing button. By clicking that, you’ll be able to share this news item to your social media and more, depending on what your device supports.

Performance Metrics: Can I customize the performance metrics lists?

In the Current Performance and Timeline tabs, you can click on the “Select Metrics” button (top, second button from the right) to add or remove metrics.

Performance Metrics: How does the Histogram view work?

In the Histogram tab, you can click on the metric for which you want to show a full screen view. Apart from the average value of the metric, you can also click on the histogram to see values at any point in time. The history duration and sampling interval can be modified by clicking on the Options icon (top right).

Performance Metrics: Why are there different colours in the FPS tab?

The colours have the following significance: Green, if the game is achieving 60fps or more, Yellow if it is between 30 and 60fps, and Red if it is below the 30fps threshold.

General: How do I reconnect to my PC instead of Adding a PC all over again?

Reconnecting to your already existing profile is easy: juts click on the name of the profile once you get to the “Welcome” screen, and you will connect right away. You still have the option to go to the settings afterwards and connect to a different profile.

General: Can I reconnect automatically to my last active profile when I start the app?

Of course; just enable “Automatic reconnection” from the Settings tab.

General: Can two or more mobile devices connect to my PC?

No, the connection between your PC and your mobile device must be one-to-one. If you try to connect another mobile device while a prior connection is still active, the existing connection will be terminated, and the new device will be connected.

General: How do I disconnect from my PC when I am done?

You can go to the App Settings section and tap on your PC profile to uncheck and disconnect. Or, you can simply close the app.

Network: How can I troubleshoot if a connection cannot be established?

First, if you cannot connect by using the QR code, there is a manual option – so select “Manual Input” from the Add a PC wizard in the beginning, or via the Settings and follow the instructions on your device’s screen. Apart from that, make sure you have checked the following:

  1. You have a strong Wi-Fi signal on your device.
  2. You are connected to the same network and subnet as your PC.
  3. In manual input, that you are entering the correct IP address on your PC, it may have more than one. Your Hostname (name of your PC) also needs to be typed exactly as shown.
  4. Some software firewalls and routers may interfere with the AMD Link app’s ability to communicate with your PC. So, make sure port 58888 is open for business.
  5. It has been noted that the combination of poor mobile device cameras and overly reflective monitors doesn’t allow the QR code to be properly focused by the camera. Make sure you minimise on-screen reflections to make it work and move the camera approximately 40-50cm away from the monitor.
  6. Make sure you click on the “Auto-configure Windows Firewall” button in the AMD Link tab – this will create the necessary Firewall entries for you.

Network: I am getting an error message while trying to connect! What does it mean?

Here are some of the error messages you may encounter while trying to connect AMD Link to your PC and their meaning.

Meaning

DEADLINE_EXCEEDED

Deadline expired before operation could complete. This usually means that your PC didn’t respond to AMD Link’s request for connection. Please make sure your firewall, antivirus or router are not blocking connections.

ALREADY_EXISTS

Couldn’t create an entity (e.g., file or directory) because it already exists. Delete your profile both in Radeon™ Settings and in the AMD Link app, and try to re-initiate the connection from the beginning.

PERMISSION_DENIED

The caller does not have permission to execute the specified operation. Blocked RPC communications or blocked ports are usually to blame for this, so check your firewalls and/or anti-virus software.

UNAUTHENTICATED

The request does not have valid authentication credentials for the operation. This means that one of the following connection details is not right:

IP

Host name

Port

PIN

CANCELLED

The user disconnected from the server – that may happen when you have a weak or finicky Wi-Fi signal, you locked your PC or your phone went into deep sleep and thus the connection was terminated.

UNAVAILABLE

The service is currently unavailable. Make sure AMD Link server is enabled and running and that all the network configuration details check out.

Invalid QR Code

Same as UNAUTHENTICATED

Service unavailable

Same as UNAVAILABLE

Connection timed out

Same as DEADLINE_EXCEEDED

Connection closed

Network: How can I find out my PC and my device’s IP address?

In your Radeon™ Settings, click on the “AMD Link” button. If “AMD Link Server” is disabled, enable it. If “AMD Link Server” is enabled, click “Add Device”. Click on the “Manual Input” button – you will see your IP there. If there is more than one IP, click on the “Server IP” button to see the whole list.
In order to find the IP of your mobile device, the steps are different and they depend on the operating system version, and your device’s manufacturer. Here are a few tips:

  • If you have an iOS device, go to Settings and click on Wi-Fi. Then click on the connected Wi-Fi network and you’ll see your network information there.
  • On Android it depends on your device, Android version and device manufacturer – usually you can try going to Settings, Connections, click on Wi-Fi and then click on the connected network. Alternatively, there will be an advanced option on your Wi-Fi network list that will take you to a window with all the relevant information.

Settings: How can I delete a profile that’s not valid anymore?

Your saved connection profile can become invalid for several reasons; most commonly the IP of either your PC or your device has changed at some point. In that case, you can go to the app Settings section, and swipe right the profile from left to right. You will have a few seconds to undo your action, if you did this by mistake but after that, the profile will be deleted.

Game streaming: I can’t see a Game Streaming tab! What am I doing wrong?

In order to have Game streaming working, you need the following:

  • AMD Link 2.0 or later
  • AMD Radeon™ Settings Adrenalin Edition 2019 (18.50) or later
  • In AMD Radeon™ Settings, Radeon™ ReLive needs to be installed and enabled. Record Desktop also needs to be enabled. In the Game and VR Streaming tab, Remote Play needs to be enabled.

Game streaming: What kind of wireless network do I need for optimal results?

To get the very best gaming experience, you will need a fast Wi Fi network, such as 802.11ac or later. Older networks may also work, but you will have to make compromises on stream quality.

Game streaming: How can I check whether my current streaming settings are OK for my system?

When you go to the Game Explorer and click on the three-dot menu, the last option is called “Test Stream”. That will give you an indication whether your current settings are enough for a good streaming experience.

Game streaming: What does the “Turn Monitor Off” option do?

When you’re streaming your game or your desktop, your mobile device displays whatever your monitor does. Sometimes you may want to turn off your monitor and just have the mobile device displaying your game, especially if you decide to play your game away from your PC. Using our patent-pending technology, AMD Link allows you to turn off your displays and save on power without that having any effect on your game. Please note that this is a setting that cannot be changed while you are streaming.

Game streaming: How can I play games using an external controller?

All you need to do is connect your Bluetooth controller (such as an XBox One Controller, etc) to your mobile device as you normally do. AMD Link will recognise it and allow it to control your games. On iOS, you will need an MFI-certified controller to be able to connect it to your device.

Game streaming: How can I add games to my Game Explorer list?

AMD Link communicates with the Gaming tab in Radeon™ Settings in order to get a list of your PC games. In order to add new games or remove them, you need to go to Radeon™ Settings > Gaming tab and edit your games list by either scanning for new games, adding a game manually or removing a game you no longer have installed.

Game streaming: Is streaming reserved just for games?

Of course not; you can start streaming your desktop using the “Start Streaming” button on the top right. This allows you to control your desktop from afar, but also do some very interesting things like watch a movie, or even do some work if you have the appropriate peripherals connected to your mobile device.

Game streaming: How can I edit my on-screen controllers?

From the Game streaming tab, choose the “Control” icon to get to the appropriate sub-page. There, you can see all the custom controller profiles you have, allowing you to edit them, add new ones or delete some if you no longer need them.

Game streaming: How can I enable on-screen controls for my game?

The default control mode is Trackpad; in order to enable the on-screen controls for your game, swipe down from the centre of the screen, and click on the “Controls” icon (second from the right) – when you de-select the “Trackpad” option, you will be able to choose either the default on-screen controls or the ones you’ve customized to your preference.

Game streaming: What do all these icons do when you swipe down from the top of the screen while streaming?

From left to right:

  • Left Arrow icon takes you back to AMD Link without interrupting your stream. You can come back to your game by tapping on the “Now Streaming” bar.
  • he keyboard icon allows you to use your Android/iOS keyboard to input text.
  • he monitor icon appears when you have more than one monitor attached to your PC – it allows you to stream them one by one.
  • The Window icon allows you to focus your stream on the active window. This means that you can have a game running in Windowed mode, and when you focus on that, the game will be full screen on your device
  • The controls icon allows you to choose the controller you want to use. You can use trackpad mode, or the appropriate custom on-screen controls you have created. If you have an external Bluetooth controller connected, it will work either way.
  • The three-dot menu allows you to change the streaming settings without interrupting your stream. You are also able to send specific keystrokes (like Alt-F4) to your PC.

Game streaming: My in-game controls are not working! Why is that?

Some games handle controls differently than others – AMD Link hooks onto your system but some games unfortunately do not like that. Another example is, there are games out there that if you haven’t enabled your external controller before launching your game, your controller won’t work. These sorts of games will stream properly, but the controls won’t work because AMD Link’s hooks take place after the game starts.

Game streaming: Can I customize my button mappings?

Yes you can, but only on Android. On iOS, if a controller is MFI certified it will automatically work so that customization is not necessary.

Radeon™ Wattman Technology: I can’t see an AMD Radeon™ Wattman technology option! Why is that?

In order to use Radeon™ Wattman technology in AMD Link, Radeon™ Wattman needs to be supported by your graphics card and you need a compatible AMD Radeon™ Settings version installed (Adrenaline 2019 version or later).

You need to enable “Wattman Advanced Control” from the Settings tab in order to be able to change settings.

Click on the “AMD Link” button and look at the saved profiles; if a device is connected, the indicator beside it will be green.

AMD Radeon™ Settings: What happens if my network IP changes or if I change the network parameters (like opening ports etc.)?

All you need to do is restart the AMD Link server to get the new network information. To do that, just switch the “AMD Link Server” to off, and on again.
