Please follow these instructions to gather the necessary information about your processor and the issue before submitting your warranty request.

Product Details

Have your AMD boxed processor's ordering part number (OPN) and serial number (SN) ready.

You can find both the ordering part number (OPN) and the serial number (SN) on the tamper-evident authentication label attached to the retail box.

Additionally, you can scan the QR code printed on the authentication label with a smartphone. Once verified, the processor details will be displayed on AMD.com.

NOTE: All AMD Ryzen™ and EPYC™, AMD A-Series™, AMD Athlon™, and AMD FX™ retail products have a secure tamper evident authentication label. For more information refer to How to Determine the Authenticity of an AMD Boxed Processor.

If you no longer have the retail box, you can find the serial number on the markings on the processor lid.

You can also scan the QR code on the lid to view the processor information on your device. It will appear as text in the format (serialnumber_traypartnumber). An example is provided below, with the serial number highlighted.

After that, use the AMD Processor Serial Number Lookup tool to find the corresponding ordering part number (OPN) for your processor.

NOTE: Use only the serial number found in the QR code on the lid, the tray part number is not valid for boxed processor warranty claims.

Warranty Coverage

The AMD Processor Serial Number Lookup tool offers additional information about your processor, including warranty coverage and its eligibility for service through AMD. Please verify your processor's RMA eligibility before submitting a warranty claim with AMD.

NOTE: If your processor was purchased separately and did not come in a sealed retail package, warranty service will be handled by the retailer where you bought it, not by AMD. Please refer to the AMD Processor in a Box (PIB) 3-Year Limited Warranty for terms and conditions, and consult the AMD Global & System Builder Partners Contact Information for additional warranty assistance.

Determine Faulty Product

Follow these basic troubleshooting steps to check if your processor is faulty. Depending on your system and issue, some steps may not be applicable. We recommend documenting your findings and results as this information will be required when processing your claim.

  • Motherboard & Memory Compatibility
New processors may require specific motherboard socket, memory type, and updated BIOS for full compatibility. Check the manufacturer’s website for the updated CPU Support List, Memory (QVL), and BIOS for your motherboard. You may visit your manufacturer online by clicking their name and the link provided: ASRock, ASUS, BIOSTAR, Gigabyte, MSI.

  • Power Source & Cable Connections
Verify that your power supply unit (PSU) is sufficient for your system, and all required power cables are properly connected. For more details, refer to article on troubleshooting power supply issues.

  • Component Swap Test
If feasible, perform a swap test by installing the CPU in another compatible, working system to determine whether the issue follows your processor. For guidance on installing or replacing your processor, please watch Ryzen Installation Video or Threadripper Installation Video.

NOTE: Always use proper care when handling the processor. Refer to our Processor Handling Guidance for tips and best practices.

What’s Not Covered

AMD is not responsible for defects caused by misuse, neglect, or improper installation/testing. Therefore, any processor with physical damage due to external causes will not be eligible for AMD warranty service.

Here are some examples of defects not covered under warranty:

  • Scratches on substrates, QR code, or lids affecting marking legibility
  • Bent, damaged, missing, or contaminated pin(s) or pad(s)
  • Gross damage

When returning your processor, carefully remove the CPU cooler and take the processor out of the motherboard socket. Then, pack the processor securely to ensure it arrives safely at AMD. For detailed instructions, please refer to: How to Remove an AMD CPU Cooler and Packing Tips.

Upon arrival, AMD will test and inspect your processor to assess whether it is defective and if the defect is covered under the limited warranty terms. For details on warranty exclusions, please refer to the AMD Processor in a Box (PIB) 3 Year Limited Warranty.

NOTE: Please retain your CPU cooler and do not include it in the return shipment.
