Thomas Zacharia is Senior Vice President, Global Public Sector and Strategic Partnerships at AMD. In this role, he works across governments, industry, and research institutions to drive public-private collaborations that accelerate the deployment of AMD technologies, strengthen sovereign AI infrastructure, advance AI for science and national security, and expand the company's open AI ecosystem.
Since joining AMD in early 2024, Zacharia has expanded AMD's engagement with governments, national laboratories, research institutions, and key ecosystem partners worldwide, helping strengthen the company's leadership in high-performance computing, AI, quantum computing, and sovereign AI.
Prior to joining AMD, Zacharia spent 35 years at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, where he served as Laboratory Director and led the development of AMD-powered Frontier, the world's first exascale supercomputer. He also served as Executive Vice President of the Qatar Foundation, advancing major investments and initiatives in research, innovation, and technology.
Throughout his career, Zacharia has bridged government, academia, and industry to advance breakthrough technologies at the intersection of energy, computing, and AI, accelerating scientific discovery, economic competitiveness, and national security.
Zacharia holds a doctorate in Computational Materials Science from Clarkson University.
