AMD uProf Vulnerabilities
Summary
Researchers reported vulnerabilities in AMD uProf that could allow a local attacker with user privileges to cause a loss of availability.
AMD uProf (“MICRO-prof”) is a performance analysis tool suite for x86-based applications running on Windows, Linux, and FreeBSD operating systems. It provides performance metrics for AMD Zen-based processors and AMD Instinct™ MI Series accelerators. AMD uProf enables developers to better understand performance bottlenecks, optimization scope, and evaluate improvements.
CVE-2026-0466
The report noted that a vulnerability in AMD uProf could allow a local attacker with user privileges to write to memory mapped by the kernel.
Based on the researcher’s report, AMD has confirmed that the issue stems from the driver creating a shared section object with a NULL security descriptor and exposing kernel pointers in shared memory, which could allow an attacker to write to kernel-mapped memory and potentially cause a system crash or denial of service. AMD has released mitigations intended to address the reported issue.
CVE-2026-28237
The report noted that a vulnerability in AMD uProf could allow a local attacker with user privileges to allocate excessive resources to the kernel driver, potentially leading to resource exhaustion, uncontrolled memory consumption, and a denial-of-service condition.
Based on the researcher’s report, AMD has reviewed the findings and released mitigations intended to address the reported issue.
CVE Details
Refer to Glossary for explanation of terms
| CVE | CVE Description | CVSS Score |
| CVE-2026-0466 | Improper access control in AMD uProf may allow a local attacker with user privileges to write to the kernel-shared memory section, potentially resulting in crash or denial of service. | 6.8 (Medium) |
| CVE-2026-28237 | Allocation of resources without limits in AMD uProf could allow an attacker to exhaust system resources resulting in loss of availability. | 6.8 (Medium) |
Specific CVSS scores may change subject to your implementation. We encourage you to calculate CVSS scores independently for your system.
Affected Products and Mitigation
AMD released a mitigation and recommends updating to AMD uProf 5.3 or higher.
