AMD Alveo™ MA35D AMA SDK 1.4.0: Stability and Performance at Scale

Feb 09, 2026

Abstract background

We are super excited to announce that the latest AMA SDK 1.4.0 release for the AMD Alveo™ MA35D Media Accelerator is here, and it’s all about delivering rock-solid stability and performance improvements for demanding media workloads. This update reflects our commitment to refining the platform for production environments, ensuring customers can scale video processing with confidence.

What’s New in SDK 1.4.0

  • FFmpeg 7.1 Integration
The SDK now supports FFmpeg 7.1*, bringing enhanced performance and stability improvements for media workflows. This upgrade ensures better compatibility with modern streaming pipelines and optimizations for low-latency encoding and decoding.

  • Expanded OS Support
We’ve added support for Ubuntu 24.04, Debian 12, Alma and Rocky Linux 9.6. These additions make deployment more flexible across bare-metal, containerized, and virtualized environments.

  • Improved XMA API
The Xilinx Media Accelerator (XMA) API has been updated for better performance and stability. The changes pave the way for a more robust and efficient development experience going forward.

Deprecated Features

  • 2D GPU Compositor Engine – Removed due to low adoption.

  • ML NPU Engine – Removed because of limited customer interest.

  • GStreamer Framework – No longer officially supported; FFmpeg remains the primary framework.

These changes allow us to deliver a leaner, more reliable SDK for production environments.

What Makes This Release Special

  • Ultra-low latency encoding remains a key strength, now optimized for 4K at 8ms.

  • Continued support for high-density streaming with AV1, H.264, and HEVC codecs.

  • Full acceleration of the video pipeline for outstanding economics and scalability.

This release underscores our focus on delivering a streamlined, production-ready platform. By concentrating on core functionality, we’ve reduced complexity and enhanced overall system stability.

The full list of changes for this release can be found in the release notes section of our documentation.

* AMA SDK supports only one version of FFmpeg at a time. Older FFmpeg versions are no longer supported.
