AMD Radeon™ ProRender is a powerful physically-based rendering engine that enables creative professionals to produce stunningly photorealistic images. Built on highly efficient, high-performance Radeon™ Rays technology, Radeon ProRender's complete, scalable ray tracing engine uses open industry standards to harness GPU and CPU performance for swift, impressive results.

This Radeon ProRender plug-in for Autodesk® ​Maya®​ is a feature rich solution which enables the user to render high quality images of their models. With this tool, users can render and then perform a host of post image processes.

Material Library for Radeon ProRender

The Material Library for Radeon ProRender has been updated with new materials which also now uses Uber Shader as a basis. The shared Material Library (Blender, 3ds Max, and Maya) for Windows® and macOS® is now separated from the Radeon ProRender plug-in installers However, the material updates have been made for all operating systems.

It should also be noted that the files for the Material Library are to be updated independently of the plug-in installers.

Radeon ProRender for Maya v2.7 Highlights

  • Support for input ramps to volumes – Pressure and speed inputs in particular.
  • Portal lights are support for IBL, sun, and sky. Click on create portal and select an object to make a portal light.
  • Machine Learning denoiser training improvements. Falls back to CPU denoising on unsupported GPUs.
  • Added a shelf button to create RPR Physical light.
  • Viewport rendering interactivity changes:
    • Fixed an issue of overzealously re-exporting shaders with each camera move.  This will make viewports more interactive.
    • IPR and viewport use RPR "preview" feature which gives faster initial iterations when changing items interactively.
    • Camera updates interactively in viewport.
    • Default "headlight" is not added when Uber emissive objects are in the scene.
  • Render options changes:
    • Enabled cancelling render with ESC key on macOS.
    • Added options for save .exr format from renders.  All AOV's can be written to a single .exr file or split via checkbox for multichannel .exr
    • Tile rendering - render a large resolution scene by smaller tiles can be faster and use less memory.  Enable in sampling settings.
    • Render View now shows the render time after a render completes
    • Volume AOV renamed to Volume / SSS
  • .rpr file export changes:
    • .rpr export can be compressed.
    • Option to export .rpr as single file.
    • Fixed correct camera export in .rpr format.
  • Render Statistics Collection – Removed the activation key from installers. Instead, AMD is now making an optional render statistics collection which can be disabled in the render setting. However, we encourage users to contribute to the Radeon™ ProRender ecosystem by leaving this on. No personal information will be collected instead, only information regarding how long a render takes, what hardware was used, how many polygons were in the scene, etc. will be collected.  This information will help continue our development of ProRender.   

Fixed Issues

  • Fixed a crash when removing emissive shader while interactive rendering.
  • Fixed a crash with adaptive subdivision.
  • Fixed artifacts on Nvidia® graphics cards with curve objects.
  • Double sided emission in Uber should now work.
  • Issues for Maya® fluid volumes are now fixed.
  • Fixed issue with ML denoiser flipping output image.
  • Correct object names exported with GLTF files.
  • Meshes with 2 UV sets and using smoothing are exported correctly.
  • Masks applied to xgen curves are exported correctly.
  • Hairs with large number of control points are exported correctly.
  • Refraction differences between CPU and GPU rendering have been improved.
  • Ambient Occlusion node now works on CPU.
  • UV of curves objects works on CPU now.
  • Fisheye camera fixed on CPU.

Known Issues

  • Adaptive sampling may have artifacts if enabled with multiple GPUs used for rendering.

ISV Certification Notes

  • Due to Maya-MtoA software issue Trac #3142, some Viewport Draw modes for stand-ins draw an infinite line. Workaround is to toggle the Viewport Draw Mode of the stand-in in the Attribute Editor.
  • Autodesk Maya 2017/2018 may show gray patch in playback in certain models due Maya issue Maya 41945. Workaround is to click on a different frame on timeline or to click on first frame.
