As factories, warehouses, and other places of business become increasingly automated, ensuring safety and security has never been more critical. Environmental complexity and growing data volumes from an increasing number of security cameras and sensors are driving demand for intelligent, high-performance security solutions.

Fujisoft has responded to this need by developing an AI-based physical security system built on the AMD Embedded+ platform, a solution that integrates the strengths of FPGA adaptability and x86 processing performance into a unified architecture. The demonstration unit was completed in 2025, and Fujisoft is now refining the solution for broader deployment.

From Conventional Detection to AI-Driven Precision

Similar safety systems often rely on frame-to-frame difference analysis. While effective in simple environments, these systems frequently generate false detections due to:

  • Changes in lighting conditions
  • Weather fluctuations
  • Branches swaying in the wind
  • Shadows and background motion

These environmental factors can trigger unnecessary alerts, reducing operational efficiency and trust in the system.

Another common challenge of detection systems is the need to frequently reconfigure detection zones, which is often laborious.

Fujisoft’s AI-powered solution addresses these challenges by enabling intelligent object recognition. Instead of merely detecting motion, the system identifies and classifies people and objects using AI, dramatically reducing false positives and increasing detection accuracy.

At the core of the solution is the AMD Embedded+ platform, which combines an AMD Ryzen™ Embedded processor and Versal™ adaptive SoC on a single PCB, with AI development tools, including AMD Ryzen AI Software and Vitis™ AI. The solution minimizes design complexity and costs and helps accelerate time to market.

“By combining both adaptive and x86 embedded technologies into a single, integrated solution, the AMD Embedded+ platform fully leverages Fujisoft’s strengths in both hardware and software development,” said Fujisoft manager, Naoya Yanagitsubo.

Key Features of the Physical Security System

Fujisoft’s safety system offers a range of advanced capabilities designed for real-world deployment in factories and operational sites:

1. AI-Based Person and Object Detection

The system uses AI models running on the AMD Embedded+ platform to identify humans and relevant objects in real time, enabling precise intrusion detection and reducing false alarms caused by environmental changes.

2. Automatic Detection Area Configuration

One of the system’s most unique features is its intuitive area configuration method. The detection area is automatically configured by detecting four stop signs. Users can define the target area simply by placing stop signs in the desired locations.

3. Real-Time Monitoring and Alerts

The solution provides:

  • Continuous real-time monitoring
  • Immediate visual and audible alerts when hazards are detected
  • Rapid response capability for enhanced safety management

End-to-End Development Expertise

Fujisoft provides complete hardware development support, including product definition, design services, research, validation, and production assistance. From the earliest stages, Fujisoft’s consultants work alongside customers to define system requirements. During development, the company forms seamless collaborative teams spanning hardware and software engineering. The company also acts as a reseller of third-party hardware products and IP cores, including FPGA boards, SOMs, and industrial PCs, enabling flexible, optimized proposals built around AMD technologies.

“Our strength is that we are not just a system integrator capable of software development, but rather, a system integrator with an in-house hardware team specializing in FPGA development,” Yanagitsubo said.

Leveraging the AMD Ecosystem

Working with AMD has helped Fujisoft streamline development:

  • Sample applications have been provided alongside development environments
  • Direct engineering support was available when questions arose
  • Early Access Site resources proved highly valuable

“AMD also offers a wide-ranging lineup of products that allows us to provide a broad variety of solutions to our customers,” Yanagitsubo noted. “In addition, AMD provides comprehensive support, so we didn’t encounter difficulties during development.”

Meeting the Needs of the Japanese Market

Yanagitsubo said that in Japan, mass production of consumer electronics has been declining, shifting demand toward low-volume, high-mix products with long product lifecycles. “In such cases, FPGAs and SoCs are becoming increasingly important, and we believe that AMD’s cutting-edge technologies will play a critical role,” he said.

At the same time, the rapid growth of AI and exploding data volumes are increasing demand for high-performance, cost-efficient computing platforms, which is where Embedded+ delivers value.

Yanagitsubo added that AMD has strong brand recognition in Japan, which helps to support smooth communication and customer engagement. As a result, Fujisoft has received strong interest from customers in such areas as industrial systems, security, and automotive. “Through conversations with various customers, we have identified specific challenges, and we believe that Embedded+ is well positioned to address and solve these issues,” Yanagitsubo said.

By combining deep FPGA expertise, strong software capabilities, AI integration, and the AMD Embedded+ platform, Fujisoft has built a next-generation physical security system designed for accuracy, flexibility, and long-term deployment. As safety requirements evolve and AI becomes indispensable, the collaboration between AMD and Fujisoft demonstrates how integrated hardware-software innovation can deliver smart and effective solutions for modern industry.
