What’s Changing with Vivado Tool Licensing
AMD Vivado™ Design Suite is evolving to a new tiered licensing model starting with the 2026.1 release. This gives more licensing options at more price points, providing flexibility to pay only for the device families and features that you need.

Update For Development kits
All AMD development kits include a FREE one-year subscription license voucher. The tier level is dependent on which device is in the development kit. After the one-year period expires, you must purchase a new subscription to continue using Vivado.
NOTE: All customers buying AMD Alveo™ accelerators, will get a FREE, one year subscription to special version of Vivado PRO (Alveo tier) that supports all Alveo devices only.
Users Targeting Smaller Devices
Use Vivado BASIC subscription tier at no cost, and get access to more devices. Only change: A simple annual license renewal.
Users Targeting High-end UltraScale™ and UltraScale+ Devices
Switch to CORE or PRO subscription tier to reduce costs while maintaining required capabilities or continue to use Enterprise.
Users Targeting Versal Devices
Use the PRO subscription tier at lower cost or continue using ENTERPRISE or GOLD tiers with no required changes.
FAQ: What You Need to Know
Yes. The BASIC tier remains free with annual renewal.
No. Perpetual options are still available, and existing Enterprise licenses remain valid.

Active tool use will be suspended until renewal. AMD will send multiple reminders about renewal in advance.
All AMD development kits continue to get a FREE one-year subscription license along with the kit. The tier level is dependent on which device is in the AMD development kit. After the one-year period expires, you must purchase a new subscription to continue using Vivado.
For example: AMD Versal-based development kits will include a PRO license and higher end UltraScale/UltraScale+ based development kits will include CORE license.
There will be no changes to the development kit license received before July 1st.
No. There is no change to this program. The AMD University Program has supported educators and researchers worldwide for more than 30 years. Academics are welcome to join the program and request multiple licenses of the AMD Vivado Design Suite Enterprise Edition for teaching courses and for their research teams.

The evaluation license under the new model is a single 60-day evaluation, given only once, and comes with full features and access to all devices. After EVAL, customers must purchase a valid Vivado subscription to continue.
