AMD FSR™ “Redstone”

FSR “Redstone” is a suite of ML-powered gaming technologies, delivering smoother performance and sharper visuals on the latest on AMD RDNA™ 4 GPUs.

  • FSR Upscaling: (Formerly AMD FidelityFX™ Super Resolution 4) Reconstructs crisp, high-quality visuals from low-resolution frames.
  • FSR Frame Generation: Predicts and inserts new frames between rendered ones, delivering smoother and higher frame rate gaming.
  • FSR Ray Regeneration: Infers and restores full-quality ray-traced detail from sparse samples, delivering sharp, noise-free visuals with reduced rendering cost.
  • FSR Radiance Caching: Dynamically learns and then predicts how light propagates through a scene, delivering efficient real-time global illumination.

Available and Upcoming ML-powered AMD FSR Games

Available exclusively on the AMD Radeon™ RX 9000 Series graphics cards, AMD FSR™ Upscaling uses an ML-accelerated algorithm to deliver image quality improvements over AMD FSR 3.1.

Frequently Ask Questions

FSR 4 has been renamed FSR Upscaling to better distinguish between the various features that now make up FSR “Redstone”.

AMD FSR “Redstone” is a suite of ML-powered features that game developers can implement into their games to improve the performance and immersiveness of the title. FSR “Redstone” is made up of the following features: FSR Upscaling, FSR Frame Generation, FSR Ray Regeneration and FSR Radiance Caching.

Enabling AMD FSR Technologies

There are two methods to enable AMD FSR Upscaling. Some games have native integration of ML-based FSR Upscaling and users can enable it directly from the game menu. In some games, the settings UI may still show the previous name for this technology, AMD FSR 4.

Other games have AMD FSR 3.1 or higher integrated and gamers can use AMD Software to swap DLLs and upgrade their game to ML-based upscaling. If the game has AMD FSR 3.1.4 or higher with frame generation, you can upgrade to ML-based frame generation.

For games that require AMD Software to enable ML-based upscaling and frame generation, users can follow the steps below.

  1. Ensure you have one or more ML-based AMD FSR supported game titles installed on your system.
  2. With the game not running, open AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition and click on the “Gaming” tab.
  3. Click on the “Graphics” sub tab to access global graphics settings.

  1. AMD FSR can be enabled via the “AMD FSR Upscaling” and “AMD FSR Frame Generation” toggles directly: enable FSR upscaling and frame generation manually. We also recommend enabling Radeon™ Anti-Lag 2 in games that support it.

  1. At this point in time, you can launch your game and turn on AMD FSR 3.1 in the in-game graphics or video options settings, if it is not already enabled, and then optionally set the desired FSR upscaling quality preset from within the in-game graphics or video options menu.
  2. Additionally, in supported games, FSR Frame Generation can be enabled using the in-game graphics or video options settings for a further boost in framerates, and AMD Radeon™ Anti-Lag 2 can be enabled to reduce input latency for a more an even more responsive gaming experience.

Games supporting AMD FSR Ray Regeneration will have the feature enabled directly in-game when ray tracing is enabled.
